Little girl emotionally sings ‘You Are My Sunshine’ to dying cat

As any pet owner can tell you, having a pet brings immense meaning to their life – they quickly become a part of the family.

Though not human, pets provide their owners with boundless love and joy – but, sadly, they do not live forever.

This means that every pet owner may one day face the heartbreak of losing their pet. This experience can be especially challenging for younger children to understand and cope with.

And this incredibly touching story is no different – so be sure to have something ready to wipe your tears…

In this video, a young girl sings “You Are My Sunshine” to her cat, who was, heartbreakingly, passing away just before Christmas.

The little girl, Abby, is only four years old, yet she has already created many joyful memories with her beloved cat, Bailey, who was with Abby’s family for a decade before she was even born. This gave the two a very special connection.

The two were inseparable for years, with Abby frequently reading to Bailey and singing songs for her.

In a touching clip, it appeared Bailey genuinely understood Abby’s singing, marking the last time she would serenade her closest friend. Bailey’s kidneys failed, and she passed away just hours after the moment was captured.

Once the video was shared online, it garnered thousands of likes, shares, and comments from people worldwide, expressing admiration for Abby and offering words of kindness.

As reported by News.com.au, thousands of people sent gifts and cards to Abby after viewing the video, hoping to bring her some comfort.

Abby’s mother expressed her gratitude to everyone who sent cards and messages of sympathy during their grieving process, mentioning that the support from strangers gave her a bit more hope about the world, especially amid the often-negative online environment.

While it’s heartbreaking to see, it’s also heartwarming to know that Bailey spent her final moments in such a loving home.
